What are your day-to-day responsibilities?

As an investment accountant, my basic responsibilities relate to internal data — auditing the data that comes in, checking trades, helping to maintain access to the client portal, checking the integrity of transactions, dividends, client withdrawals and complete activity in/out of client accounts. I will also help with quarterly reports for clients and assist with checking the data and overall distribution.

What brought you to FPCG?

I held a previous post at another investment advisory shop regionally, where (small world) Raquel Branchik, a portfolio accountant here, and I previously worked together. Raquel reached out to me about joining Fort Pitt, and once I understood more about the culture, the experience fit and Fort Pitt’s philosophies, I thought it was an excellent career shift!

You’re an avid reader. Tell us about your love for books.

I challenge myself to read anywhere from 3-10 books at a time. On the weekends, you will usually find me at Barnes and Noble on the hunt for anything in the fiction genre. I’m also keeping a focus on reading novels that have been written in the last 20-30 years. My favorite book of all time? The Shining. I’m surprisingly not into horror stories, but I absolutely loved the story and creepy aspect of the novel.

I’m also a board game nerd. In June, my and wife and I attended a board game convention in Columbus, OH., where we walked the aisles talking to game vendors and having demos of games that aren’t yet released. I love researching, buying and trying new games with my family and friends.

Any interesting plans for the holidays?

Speaking of board games, we of course are having a big group of family and friends together for a New Year’s Eve board game competition. I’m the Game Master, so I oversee the schedule of games that everyone will play. It’s always a blast – we play games, have food and celebrate at midnight with a champagne toast. The New Year’s Eve celebration has been a tradition among our friend group for the last 10-15 years, but only in the last three years have we added the competitive board game element.

Lessons Learned for National Career Development Month https://www.orchid-ibex-388317.hostingersite.com/blog/lessons-learned-for-national-career-development-month/ Tue, 27 Nov 2018 14:38:45 +0000 https://orchid-ibex-388317.hostingersite.com/?p=6794 When was the last time you thought about your career progression, or set tangible goals that could help you develop in the workplace? November is National Career Development Month, which should remind us all about steps to take to achieve future success. I’ve worked at Fort Pitt as a client relationship specialist for 2.5 years, where I’ve focused my career on asset servicing and building relationships with our clients. However, when I think about my future progress here, I’m excited to build my career at Fort Pitt, and am actually working closely with the staff to inevitably shift into the role of an advisor one day. When was the last time you thought about your career progression, or set tangible goals that could help you develop in the workplace? November is National Career Development Month, which should remind us all about steps to take to achieve future success.

I’ve worked at Fort Pitt as a client relationship specialist for 2.5 years, where I’ve focused my career on asset servicing and building relationships with our clients. However, when I think about my future progress here, I’m excited to build my career at Fort Pitt, and am actually working closely with the staff to inevitably shift into the role of an advisor one day. While this will be a big career move, there are lessons I’ve learned that I thought fitting to share in light of this special month.

Admittedly, I’m usually a more risk-averse person, so you might be asking what spurred my inclination to make this career jump. First, I’m lucky that my mentors at Fort Pitt have truly guided me toward this path, and have allowed me to flourish in my CRS role, but provided the confidence and help in expanding my knowledge to know that I can take on the role of advisor. Second, my current role as CRS has really provided a foundation of hard and soft skills that will translate into the advisory role. Here are some lessons that I can pass along to readers when it comes to career progression:

  • It starts with you. For me, I have an inherent interest in becoming an advisor. I really enjoy developing relationships and helping people meet goals. I recognized this passion and am confident in having the CRS building blocks, that I can make this transition. Others at Fort Pitt have recognized this in me as well, which has helped to further develop my progression here. It’s important to ask for help, and be driven to always take colleagues up on their willingness to share professional guidance.
  • Don’t be scared of “tough” conversations. It may seem daunting to sit down with a boss and discuss your future, and if that may shift from one role into another, but in my experience, I had to have those tough conversations to truly understand and springboard my progression. I think it’s easy for people to simply change jobs and move companies when things get hard, but it’s important to take challenges head on, and see if you can progress in a current role, because that is where you will find true passions.
  • Never stop learning. My mentors at Fort Pitt allow me to sit in on client meetings and listen in on calls. I soak up every single minute of client interactions that I can because one day, I’ll be that advisor interacting with clients of varying needs. I keep my eyes and ears open and have become a sponge to anything that can relate to the role of an advisor. If you are looking to progress in your career, education is key – study new things, learn or hone in on skills that can amplify your career. Be hungry every single day to understand new things about your industry.

This month, think about where you are in your career and where you want to be. I hope that in my own journey from one role to another, there are lessons – no matter the industry – that can help to inspire progression and success.

For our latest Employee Spotlight, we spent some time with Aileen Rohrig, who recently joined the Fort Pitt team as a client relationship specialist (CRS). In our sit down with Aileen, we discussed her day-to-day responsibilities, her favorite travel destinations and some of her hobbies.

What is your job title and what are your main responsibilities in an average day?

I’m a CRS, so I help the advisors on a daily basis. My role is to be a liaison between clients and financial advisors. In addition to updating client accounts and onboarding clients, I assist with any inbound requests ranging from money movement to charitable donations.

What brought you to FPCG?

I’ve always been intrigued by the financial world because I think having an understanding of finance is a great life skill. So when I came across Fort Pitt, it seemed like a great place to work! Prior to this I worked at a food distribution company, and while it’s a very different industry, the pace of the businesses are similar, which has helped me transition into my new role here. My interest in the world of finance, along with some of my previous business ventures, gives me a unique perspective to clients’ needs.

What is your favorite hobby?

I don’t know if I have just one! I love cooking, traveling and gardening. I’m passionate about traveling and exploring new places. Before moving to Pittsburgh, I only lived an hour away, but there’s still so much to uncover here. This summer I started gardening and planting my own plants which is a newfound hobby I’ve enjoyed.

Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled?

My two favorite places I’ve traveled are Rome and Belize. In Belize, I went on an amazing diving excursion trip. It was beautiful. We went on one cave dive where you entered through a small opening and at the bottom there were sharks swimming around everywhere. It was unbelievable!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

People are often shocked to learn that I’m scuba certified. It doesn’t come up in conversation all the time and it’s not something I typically bring up. But when it does, people always say, “You can do that?!” It’s a fun fact I often keep in my back pocket.

During our sit down with Kaitlyn, we discussed her current responsibilities, aspirations and her favorite vacation destination. I’m a CRS, I started here earlier this summer after graduating from Penn State Behrend in Erie, PA with degrees in finance and accounting. My main responsibilities in this role include helping onboard clients, processing fund requests and assisting with appointment setting. It’s our role to make the advisors life easier! What brought you to FPCG? In late 2017, one of my college professors brought in a Fort Pitt job posting for a CRS role and it was the exact opportunity I was looking for post-graduation. In late 2017, one of my college professors brought in a Fort Pitt job posting for a CRS role and it was the exact opportunity I was looking for post-graduation. My goal is to become a financial advisor (I’m currently studying for my CFP) and I wanted to learn about the business from the ground up. If I become an advisor, I want to understand the work that everyone does around me to make for an exceptional client experience. I spoke to Cassie Denger here at Fort Pitt, who said they were looking for an immediate hire, but to reach out again after graduation. In May I followed up about the position and I couldn’t be more excited to be part of the Fort Pitt team.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work I love spending time with friends, taking road trips, going to a sporting event and trying new wineries and breweries in the local area. I also enjoy the occasional retail-therapy session!

Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled to?

For graduation, my parents surprised me with a cruise to the Western Caribbean for our family. I absolutely loved the trip and Honduras in particular, it’s a beautiful country. A highlight was scuba diving and seeing the beautiful reefs. Our family usually travels to different parts of the U.S. on vacations so this was a wonderful surprise.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I really love to bake, but I’m not a big fan of the cleanup after, but who is? My great-grandmother was an amazing baker and it seemed to skip a few generations before it got back to me. At any gathering, party or vacation I’m always the one to supply the sugar rush!

Some of my responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the firm’s performance composites and assembling performance-oriented reports and marketing materials for existing and prospective clients. On top of that, I assist our investment consultants by preparing detailed monthly sales reports and take on other various projects related to our portfolio accounting system.

Where did you go to college? What was your major?

I went to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. While I was there, I studied finance with a focus in investment management.

What brought you to Fort Pitt?

After graduating, I moved to the Philadelphia area and gained two years of experience at a financial technology firm. After working there, I was ready to move back to Pittsburgh. When I began searching for jobs, one of the first places I learned about and applied to was Fort Pitt. One thing that drew me here is their commitment to improving the financial wellness of the Pittsburgh community.

Do you have any exciting summer plans?

I currently don’t have any plans set in stone aside from studying for my level three CFA exam. My family and I may go to the Florida Keys later this summer. We really enjoy snorkeling and marine life, so we’ve been researching the best spots to snorkel in that area. We may even go to Dry Tortugas National Park, which is about 70 miles from the Florida Keys. Other than that, I plan to visit my brother who lives near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and eat tons of blue crabs.

Where’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled to?

I’ve been on a few really memorable trips. Last summer, I took a really cool trip to Seattle and the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington. That area is a remarkably scenic part of the world and there’s no shortage of outdoor activities to engage in. We did some sea kayaking while we were there and I had an unforgettable experience when I saw a group of transient orca whales hunting while I was out on the water.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

When I am not studying and have some extra time, I like to go on walks with my dog, go to the gym and participate in the indoor soccer league I’m in with some of my friends.

What is your job title and how did you begin working in the field?

I love the similarities between the two professions, especially finding practical solutions to the constantly changing regulations in the financial services industry.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy gardening when I’m not working. It’s a great way to get my home ready for spring and summer. Aside from that, I love going on motorcycle rides with my husband and finding unique places to eat in and around Pittsburgh. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend going to Jioio’s for pizza in Greensburg, PA. It’s an hour drive away but for my family it’s always worth the trip!

Do you have any travel plans this summer?

This summer I’ll be going to Italy with my son. He plays in a youth orchestra in Pittsburgh that’s going to perform at historical sites around Italy. We’ll be going to Rome, Venice and Florence. I’m most excited to see the Vatican and Sistine Chapel while we’re there.

Where has been your favorite place to travel to?

I’ve only had the opportunity to travel abroad twice in my life. I’m going to Italy this year and my husband and I were lucky enough to travel to Paris for our honeymoon. Such a romantic and beautiful place. Aside from that, every summer my family and I go camping. It’s a great way to spend time together and enjoy the outdoors.

For our latest Employee Spotlight, we spent time with client relationship specialist Erica Patti, who has recently joined the team. Given her experience, we discussed her professional skills, some fun facts about her background, and how this isn’t her first time in the limelight.

  1. What are your day to day responsibilities at FPCG?

I’m a client relationship specialist, which means I support the onboarding process of new clients, take trade orders and communicate that information to the trade team, and prepare presentations for clients and prospective clients. The position requires employees to have knowledge in the financial space and have excellent customer service skills. I’ve only been a part of the team for a little over five weeks, but everyone has been extremely helpful and welcoming.

  1. How did you end up at FPCG?

I began working at my last job right out of college and had been there for over eight years, so I was looking to make a change in my career. When I was looking for a new job, it was important for me to find a place that allowed me to interact with clients and work with a close-knit team.

  1. What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

I’m a big sports fan! One of my favorite things to do is to go to Steelers and Penguins games. When I’m not cheering on the black and gold, I like to spend time with my family, friends, and my Golden Retriever.

  1. Where have been some of your favorite places to travel to?

My two favorite places to travel to would have to be France and Ireland. It was great to visit Ireland because I’m half Irish, so I enjoyed finally being able to see a part of my heritage. I’m also part Italian, so I’m looking forward to visiting Italy in the future.

  1. Can you give the readers a fun fact about yourself?

I was an extra in the movie, “She’s Out of My League”. I had a friend who knew someone in charge of casting for the movie and I ended up making the final cut as a flight attendant.
